Standards (NEN)

At NEN, widely supported agreements are made, on which stakeholders jointly agree. These agreements, or standards, provide trust, security, enable international trade and stimulate innovation and sustainability. , The standard for information security in healthcare (NEN 7510) plays an important role. The Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport designates NEN 7510, NEN 7512 and NEN 7513 in its legislation and regulations (see, for example, the Decree on electronic data processing by healthcare providers). NEN 7512 and 7513 are elaborations of the requirements from NEN 7510 regarding logging (recording actions on electronic patient files) and recording certainty regarding data exchange. Last year, NTA 7516 was published with the requirements for secure e-mail (exchange of ad hoc messages with personal health information). We are currently finalizing the development of the certification scheme, which sets out the requirements for the certification bodies that will assess the communication service providers against NTA 7516: 2019. At the end of last year, NEN started the revision of the NEN 7503 standard with requirements for digital prescription traffic that supports the medication process after updating. It is expected that this standard will be designated first in the Bill on 'electronic data exchange in healthcare', which is currently under development, indicated in the three letters to the House of Representatives on electronic data exchange in healthcare in 2019.
